This Saturday, Jimmy and I went to the county fair. It was SO HOT here in South Georgia—82 degrees, to be exact. We thought it would be a good day to go because the GA/FL game was around 3, but also because the Demolition Derby was at 2, and we love watching it! The fair is a pretty big deal around here for adults and children alike! Since we would be doing a lot of walking, I made sure I dressed for comfort and style.
Are you planning a day at the county fair this year? With a mix of fun rides, games, and LONG walks through fairgrounds, finding the right balance between being comfortable and stylish is key. Here’s your ultimate guide on what to wear to the county fair!
1. Comfortable Footwear
If there’s one thing the county fair guarantees, it’s lots of walking. From navigating gravel paths to standing in line for attractions, the right footwear is a must. My boots are Toms and made for all day wear, otherwise I would have never been able to stand in them all day.
- Sneakers: A classic go-to for support and all-day comfort. White sneakers or colorful trainers are versatile and trendy. If you’ve read my other posts, you will see these shoes A LOT. They are my favorite!
- Ankle Boots: Low-heeled ankle boots add a touch of style without sacrificing stability.
- Supportive Sandals: For warm days, choose sandals with good arch support. Yellow Box shoes are EXCELLENT for this. I have a really high arch, so these are the only flip-flops/sandals I can wear. Steer clear of flimsy flip-flops that may leave your feet sore after hours of fun. I made this mistake last year. Don’t be like me!
2. Breathable Clothing for All-Day Comfort
County fairs often mean long hours under the sun, so breathable fabrics are key to staying comfortable.
- Tops: Choose lightweight, cotton or linen tops in light colors to beat the heat. Tank tops like the one I’m wearing, off-the-shoulder blouses, or classic crop tops add a fun flair.
- Graphic Tees: Express your personality with a graphic tee featuring a favorite band or playful slogan.
- Layering Pieces: A lightweight denim jacket or flannel shirt tied around the waist looks stylish and keeps you warm as the sun sets.
3. Practical Bottoms for All-Day Fun
Choose comfortable bottoms that allow you to move around easily and enjoy all fair activities.
- Denim Shorts: The classic shorts option for summer fairs, pairing perfectly with any top for a laid-back look. Pair it with this tank like the one I wore.
- Rompers and Jumpsuits: These are easy, one-piece outfits that add style without the fuss. Just make sure they’re bathroom-friendly and comfortable enough for all day wear.
- Overalls: Easy and cute. Pair these with a tank and you are good to go!
4. Must-Have Accessories for Style and Function
The right accessories can elevate your fair outfit and add a touch of practicality.
- Hats: A wide-brimmed hat or a cute baseball cap provides style and keeps the sun off your face.
- Sunglasses: Essential for eye protection; choose UV-blocking sunglasses in classic aviator or retro round styles.
- Crossbody Bags or Fanny Packs: Keep your essentials secure and hands-free. Compact and easy to carry, these bags are perfect for holding your phone, wallet, and sunscreen.
5. Sun Protection: A Non-Negotiable
Protecting your skin while outdoors is essential.
- This sunscreen from Neutrogena is my favorite. It doesn’t leave your skin sticky like traditional sunscreens do.
- Don’t forget the face sunscreen!
- This Lip Balm adds a hint of color and protects you while out in the sun!
6. Be Ready for Surprises!
Just like theme parks, county fairs are full of unexpected moments—whether it’s a splash on a water ride, dusty paths, or sudden weather changes.
- Packable Rain Poncho: Be prepared for sudden rain with a poncho that fits easily in your bag.
- Bandana or Scarf: These are handy for keeping dust away, especially at events like the demolition derby.
- Backup Shoes: Consider packing foldable flats for tired feet during long days. These things are a lifesaver and BONUS! They are CUTE!
7. Add a Personal Touch
The county fair is the perfect place to showcase your personality. Statement necklaces like the one I wore, chunky bracelets, or unique cowboy boots can make your outfit pop.
Outfit Inspiration for the County Fair:
Classic and Comfy: White sneakers, denim shorts, graphic tee, and a baseball cap.
Boho Chic: Flowy duster, tank, shorts, ankle boots, wide-brimmed hat, and a crossbody bag.
Sporty and Fun: Bike shorts, oversized tee,(can y’all tell I like Morgan Wallen?) sneakers, and a stylish fanny pack.
Final Thoughts
Dressing for the county fair should be fun and practical! Choose clothes and accessories that reflect your personality while keeping you comfy for a day packed with activities. Prioritize comfort, be ready for any weather, and add those special touches that make your look truly yours, all on a budget!
